Since this color has a timeless appeal, I would recommend any and every space to incorporate it – whether small or large. More on this later.

While again, I love this cozy neutral, there are a few other options that you could look into – mainly SW Alabaster and SW White Duck.

But what makes SW Natural Choice different?

Well, it’s definitely the undertones and the feel of this paint on your walls.

It tends to exude a very light tone of beige in certain lighting conditions.

But, don’t worry! I am here to help you figure out if this is the right paint for your home or not!

So keep reading to become an expert!

Sherwin Williams Natural Choice SW 7011 Details and Specifications

natural choice info

Before choosing a paint color, it’s important to understand the background theories and specifications. Remember, every paint color is different.

A good practice is check the following scientific terminologies, which truly define the characteristics of any paint.

So, first and foremost, read through the Light Reflectance Values or LRV’s of paint color. This value helps in determining how light or dark the paint is.

In this case, the LRV of Sherwin Williams is 73. And that means the color falls on the lighter end of the scale.

natural choice LRV

Remember, the greater the value – the lighter the paint color.

Secondly, other important associated terms are the RGB and the HEX Values.

Red = 227

Green = 222

Blue = 208

HEX Value = #e3ded0

Oh, if you want to just try Natural Choice so you’ll know just how it’ll look, you can easily with a peel-and-stick sample from Samplize. Order some samples now!

Now that’s enough with the technical and scientific information, let’s get started with the practical aspects of this pretty Sherwin-Williams paint.

How Does this Color Feel in a Space?

Sherwin Williams Natural Choice feels absolutely warm, bright, cozy, and enlightening.

Also, if you’re looking to make your space look larger and warmer at the same time, this would be a great option!

Due to high reflectivity, this paint tends to reflect away most of the incoming light to push away the walls.

SW NC paint chip2

Additionally, you can use this paint in either colder regions like the northern states, or typical high-rise apartments where space is a major issue.

When using in the interiors, I will recommend using this paint in north-facing or south-facing rooms to balance out the color saturation in space.

How Does Light Affect the Color?

Light affects the appearance of the paint color. Believe it or not, colors are chameleons.

If your room receives ample natural lighting, the paint may appear even more light and airy whereas, in the case of the absence of natural light in a room, the paint appears a little darker! (not much though)

This is a recommended paint color for smaller-sized spaces, mainly.

However, you could also add some artificial lighting such as warm-whites and warm-yellows to add a specific mood to your space.

A pro tip: Try placing the paint swatch in different light conditions – indoors and outdoors, to determine the true hue.

Like I said, the best way to see this color in action before you paint is to buy some paint samples you can easily stick on your wall. It’ll definitely give you some clarity if you’re unsure!

What are the Best Coordinating Colors?

Natural choice Color Deck coordination

Sherwin Williams Natural Choice is a warm-toned off-white paint color that belongs to the yellow hue family and may sometimes look like one.

So, if you’re sensitive to the yellow unexpectedly peeking from the walls, be aware when using this paint color.

However, if you already have SW Natural Choice on the walls – you can best pair it with other colors to feel cohesive and calm.

To name a few, SW Natural Choice can be best paired with clean whites, brown, taupe, greige, teal blue, teal green, and charcoal gray.

In terms of metallic accents, you must choose antique brass, oil-rubbed bronze, and matte black.

Here are the following two color palette suggestions – monochromatic and coordinating!

Monochromatic Color Palette

The complementary colors for the monochromatic palette are as follows –

  • SW 7050 Useful Gray
  • SW 7051 Analytical Gray
  • SW 7052 Gray Area

This monochromatic palette is calm, poised, and extremely subtle. So, if you have a design style like modern, contemporary, or modern farmhouse – this palette is definitely something to have an eye on.

You must choose matte black or wooden fixtures and furniture frames to go with this palette.

Also, ensure there’s ample natural light entering the room to make this color feel further refreshed and airy.

Contrasting Color Palette (Cool)

The complementary colors for the contrasting palette are as follows –

  • SW 7005 Pure White
  • SW 7611 Tranquil Aqua
  • SW 7550 Resort Tan

This cool-toned palette will not only make your room feel calm and tranquilized but also create a soothing sensation.

You must choose bronze or matte black fixtures to go with this palette.

Also, don’t hold back from styling with fresh indoor plants in this space since that will further complete the look of your room.

Contrasting Color Palette (Warm)

SW paint color multi natural choice chips 2

The complementary colors for the contrasting palette are as follows (warm) –

  • SW 7051 Analytical Gray
  • SW 6166 Eclipse
  • SW 6162 Ancient Marble

This warmer palette is rather EARTHY and eye-catching!

The beautiful warm sage greens can best complement the existing off-white paint color to create a soothing calming effect indoors.

That also means you can style with rattan, wicker, cane, and various wooden textures in the form of decorative accents and furniture pieces.

On the other hand, here are a few of the colors I would recommend for a contrasting color palette!

  1. SW 6148 Wool Skein (see my full review here)
  2. SW 7664 Steely Gray
  3. SW 6229 Tempe Star (see my full review here)

For your ceilings, trims, and moldings – I would recommend using SW Pure White to further achieve a creamier look, or if you want a crisp look, choose SW High Reflectance White.

Where to Use Natural Choice in Your Home?

This color can be used anywhere in homes regardless of the interior design style or the color scheme. Well, yes! That’s how timeless this paint color is.

So, whether you have the Modern Farmhouse style or the Mid-Century Modern, Traditional, Transitional, French Country, or the Bohemian – this color would definitely do wonders.

Of course, I’m biased toward using this color in farmhouse designs!

Let’s see where and how to incorporate it in homes.

Natural Choice in Living Rooms

SW Natural Choice plays a soothing character in the living room and all the common spaces of your home.

This soft and calming paint color also has the potential to work wonderfully with natural stone and exposed red brick.

You can style it with a tan leather couch, off-white linen fabric couch, or even earthy blue or green accents around.

I highly recommend that you choose bronze, copper, or matte black fixtures to pair with this paint color.

Natural Choice in Dining Rooms

Craving for a cozy feel as soon as you enter your home? Well, don’t hold back from using this creamy neutral to add a touch of warmth and welcomeness.

You can pair it with wooden balustrades along the corridors or the stairways and use golden oak cabinetry for the living room.

Also, remember to pair it with gray, taupe, or beige neutrals and white sheer curtains with brown blackout curtains.

Just in case if you have walnut hardwood floors, it is a plus point.

Using in Bedrooms

Bedrooms deserve to be soothing and tranquilizing. So, you can incorporate tons of wooden textures and tones and shades of brown and subtle beiges.

You can also use a focal point accent wall paint to add depth to your room.

Plus, use neutral upholstery and bright decorative accents through throw pillows, blankets, and area rugs.

Natural Choice in Kitchens

Absolutely yes!

You can either paint the cabinets in this color or use golden oak or walnut wooden textured cabinetry.

Additionally, you can use brown hexagonal backsplash tiles and off-white marble or granite countertop to further refine the look of your kitchen.

I promise this paint will make your kitchen look airy, bright, and warm. So, don’t think twice before using this beautiful color.

Using on Exteriors

Whether you have a Mediterranean style or the Spanish and Colonial, this paint on the exteriors is bound to add an inviting character to the facades.

You can either add browns as an accent or go vice versa for the trims, moldings, and door and window frames.

And don’t hold back from using brown roof tiles and stonework features.

An Easy Way to Sample This Color!

Instead of picking up a small can, or worse, an entire gallon can, to “”test”” out Natural Choice, you can order a peel-and-stick sample of it from Samplize.

The company is genius – they provide a 12″” x 12″” stick-on square you can put up anywhere in your home to try out a paint color.

For a few bucks, it’s definitely worth the small investment so you can see what the color will do in YOUR unique space, with your own lights and shadows.

So, how do you want to use this color in your homes? Interiors or Exteriors?

Now that you have all the secrets – are you excited about painting your home in Natural Choice?

I would like a monochromatic look in the kitchen. Should I use Natural Chiice on walls as well as cabinets? (Using Sealskin on island and have gray-blackish hexagonal backsplash.)

Yes, you can absolutely use SW Natural Choice on the cabinets as well as the backdrop wall. Even though it’s the same color but the different sheens can make it look slightly different!

Hi, I painted my cabinets, crown molding, trim, mantel, and interior doors with Natural Choice a few years ago. Now, I am looking to paint my walls. What would be a light greige or gray that would coordinate well? I saw that you recommended Steely Gray but I was looking for something lighter. Also, what blue would you recommend for an accent wall besides Tempe Star?

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray would complement well with SW Natural Choice! If you’re looking for blue as an accent, consider SW In the Navy, SW Charcoal Blue, or SW Wall Street.

Hey! I've sampled natural choice and it seems to have a bit of a greenish hue on my walls in certain light. We have 20 foot ceilings in our entry way and living room that we are looking to paint. I like how cozy natural choice is in the direct light but neither space has a ton of direct light throughout the day. We've also looked at steamed milk but that seems to be a little too pink with the under tones. Any suggestions?

I'm considering using something in green to go with Natural Choice kitchen cabinets. Do you have any recommendations for both monochromatic and contrasting?

Nishtha

Monday 23rd of August 2021

Hello there! SW Magnetic Gray is a great contrasting hue that you can pair Natural Choice with! Other than that, Comfort Gray is good too! Well, it also boils down to the overall size of your kitchen - choose lighter green for smaller spaces and likewise!

Hi if I do natural choice walls which color kitchen cabinets I should go for white duck or wool skein My kitchen has a south facing window. Thanks

If you ask me particularly from those two options - I would recommend SW White Duck! However, frankly, there are tons of other off-whites that you can choose from (note that you should choose a color with high reflectivity)!
