Almost any room in your home could probably use more storage space. When done right, open shelves can be as beautiful as they are functional. Kendra from joyinourhome tackled building open shelves for her kitchen and was surprised at how easily they went together.
Her tutorial walks us through the process step-by-step and includes a complete supply list as well as a cut list for the wood pieces used. Because she chose to use painted MDF wood from her local home store, she was spared the step of painting the shelves once they were assembled. Make sure you screw the shelves into studs if they are to hold any substantial weight. Kendra used angled brackets to secure the shelving to the wall, and this created a clean modern farmhouse look.
Angled brackets are only one choice for mounting your shelves. Corbels could also be used as anchors for the shelves, and of course, the shelves can be painted any color that would suit your decor.
