Metallic Vase Makeover

On a shopping trip at the local thrift store, Debbie from One Day at a Time came across a vase with a really cool shape. The color, however, wasn’t quite so cool. Debbie combined elements from other vases she liked to give her thrift store find a rich metallic makeover that’s perfect for fall. Debbie shares how she used spray paint to create the textured finish on her originally smooth vase.

Nautical Rope Lamp Makeover

It’s always amazing how a little rope can totally change the look of something and instantly infuse it with a nautical feel. Krista from The Happy Housie took a lamp she had purchased at Wal-mart a couple of years ago, glued a paper roll to the base to thicken it, and then wrapped it with sisal rope attached with some hot glue. It gave the lamp an upgraded nautical look that fits perfectly in her son’s new nautical camp style bedroom.

Liven Up a Plain White Bowl with Glass Paint

The crafty ladies over at LollyJane were inspired to liven up a set of plain white bowls using DecoArt’s line of glass paint. The markers made it a cinch to freehand the designs onto the girls’ thrifted Corelle bowls, and the pretty color selection just added to the fun! Kristi says, “Of course it’s not perfect but it sure is more fun displayed in my turquoise hutch than 3 boring white bowls, right?”

Chair Makeover with Swirl Design

Mel from Junkin’ Junky found a set of four chairs at Goodwill for only $5 a piece. While the price was awesome, the chairs… not so much. Mel describes them as boring with a brown finish that scratched easily. She was inspired to update the color to a pretty blue and then add pizzazz with a vinyl swirl design. Talk about a transformation from brown and boring to blue and bold!

Turn a Basket into Art with a Sharpie

Christine from Let’s Get Crafty really liked the “texture and simple design” of West Elm’s Decorative Bowl Art. She took a trip to her local Goodwill (where there are baskets aplenty) and snagged one for less than $2 to turn into her own piece of wall art. Christine says that the weave of her basket is a “dead ringer” for her inspiration, and all she needed was a black Sharpie to complete the transformation!
