Space Saving and Functional Cube Shelves

September 17, 2017 By Kimberly Chaffee Leave a Comment

Not everyone has the tools or time to make shelving units from scratch. Thankfully there is a quick and easy alternative to get the look you want by making minor adjustments to a pre-made shelf. Shannon at AKA Designs, bought a KALLAX shelf from IKEA, and with a few additions transformed the shelf for a rustic themed decor.

What was her great addition? She added knotty pine doors to the shelf allowing her to hide stored items from plain sight. This keeps her decor looking very clean. Her step by step instructions, complete with a detailed supply list, will help you decide if you can tackle this project alone.

She recommends having two people for the project. This will certainly help move things along and prevent mistakes. If your decor is more modern, you can still use the idea, just change the door to a solid piece of wood and paint it instead. Whatever you decide, this design will be a great addition to your home.
