You might be surprised that the box from this morning’s bowl of cereal could become wall décor that rivals that of Pottery Barn.
Just check out this burlap mat that Melissa from Redfly Creations created from cardboard.
A spray painted secondhand frame makes this project all the more thrifty!
Burlap is so great, with just the right amount of neutral texture and color to go with virtually any decor style.
Going in a frame is extra special as it makes whatever you’re framing a little less formal – because, after all, not every frame piece has to be fancy!
For Melissa, she framed her son’s pencil drawing, and it turned out so cool.
Again, burlap goes with pretty much any color so whatever frame you have or color you want to paint it, you’ll have a nice compliment in the matting.
Melissa’s frame and burlap mat are similar to the Multi-Mat Frames from Pottery Barn.

Love your frame! Do you need to turn the burlap in where it meets the picture or do you just make a sharp cut with scissors?
Thanks much! Lucy

Hi Lucy,
I folded the burlap in, but then clipped just a little bit right in the corners, and pulled the burlap really tight with clear tape. Trust that helps.
