Rope Stool and Side Table

Griffin from The Design Itch was inspired by a woven ottoman from Crate & Barrel to make her own. Initially Griffin thought she could simply wrap a garden stool in nautical rope but discovered this solution would cost her way more than simply buying it from Crate & Barrel. So instead Griffin thought outside the box and glued together two ceramic pots and wrapped them in rope. Her knock-off has a similar form and the same wonderful texture as the original.

United States Wall Plaque

Bethany from Sawdust and Embryos loves geography, so when she came across a unique United States coffee table, she knew it was the perfect opportunity to put her mad scroll saw skills to work! Bethany opted to make a plaque instead of a table since the Florida peninsula seemed susceptible to busting off easily with twin toddlers running free. Here’s from Bethany: “I love that it has an amazing wood grain, a pop of color for personality, and a heart marking the spot of where we live in Iowa. One of my FAVE projects!”

Floral Lion Wall Art

Merrill from Girl of a Thousand Dreams could hardly pass on wall art that featured two of her favorite things – big cats and florals. It may sound like an odd combination, but the two come together beautifully in this simple knock off that utilizes fabric, a black and white image, and a plain canvas. Whether it’s big cats and florals or butterflies and polka dots, Merrill points out that the basic design could easily be customized to suit any fancy.

Illuminated “Hello” Sign

Nancy from Owen’s Olivia put her own creative spin on an illuminated arrow sign she saw from RH Baby & Child by making a “hello” sign out of Christmas lights. The beauty of Nancy’s DIY approach (aside from saving some serious dough) is that your sign can say whatever you like. Who wouldn’t want to see his or her name up in lights {wink}?

Sweater Covered Lampshade

With the transition from winter to spring comes the task of packing away sweaters and pulling out tees and tanks. Before you write off those old sweaters, check out how Beth at Unskinny Boppy made over a plan white lampshade with a thrift store sweater. I love the idea of adding pattern and texture to a lampshade with a few simple cuts and some glue. It’s amazing the changes you can make it a mere 20 minutes!
