Copycat

Abbie from Five Days Five Ways was ready for a change from the serviceable wood coffee table she had in her living room. She had her heart set on a large tufted ottoman but knew it would come with an equally large price tag. While Abbie says she doesn’t do pricey, she does do DIY and quickly set out on turning a square coffee table from Craigslist into the ottoman of her dreams. I love how Abbie repurposed a table and think her lovely ottoman is the icing on the cake in her gorgeously decorated living room.

Kristy of Kristy Dickerson had been on the hunt for the perfect shelves to hang above the file cabinets in her office. She finally found some at Restoration Hardware she liked, but just adding two shelves and the brackets to her cart drove the total to $800! Yikes! With a trip to Home Depot, Kristy had all the materials she needed to recreate the reclaimed wood and metal shelves. She did an amazing job distressing the boards to give them that old, worn look.

Jacque of The DIY Village loves the cute assortment of kitchen towels sold at Anthropologie. She was inspired to transform a plain, inexpensive flour sack towel from Wal-mart into a pretty patterned towel of her own using a stamp and fabric paint. Jacque says, “It was so easy I’m kicking myself for not making one sooner!”

When Erica from Craftivity Designs fell in love with a $600 piece of artwork from Anthropologie, she decided to break out her pastels and recreate it. The steps are as simple as drawing circles and then adding dimension by blending the colors with your finger. I love that Erica got the bright colors and modern design she loved about the inspiration without having to spend a cent!

With three daughters, Jessica from Polkadot Poplars spends lots of time thinking about how to decorate their rooms. For one of her girl’s bedrooms, she worked with her husband to make an upholstered headboard with monogram that’s fit for a princess. It definitely creates a focal point in the room just like Jessica hoped!
