5 Ideal Kitchen Layout Designs

3:42 PM By Julia Carlisle

ideal kitchen layout

Home decor can be impossible if you aren’t a professional home designer. One of the hardest places to organize is the kitchen.

The kitchen is considered the stomach of the home, the place where all of the food is made. It’s a room that everyone steps into multiple times a day.

Finding the ideal kitchen layout is important for flow and function in your home. If you’re looking for the best layouts, keep reading to learn our top five layouts that you should consider for your home.

1. One-Wall Kitchens

If you’re looking to save space, the one-wall kitchen is the best choice for you. Its name refers to the fact that all of the cabinets and appliances are located and fixed along the same wall.

You can get more room out of this layout by adding an island to your kitchen.

2. Galley Kitchens

If you’re looking for a kitchen that’s built like a walk-in closet, you should look into getting a galley kitchen. Just like the closet, the kitchen is a walk-in style with two walls facing one another.

The two walls have cabinets and appliances lining them and facing one another. There are no corners to worry about and you don’t have to run back and forth to cook.

3. L-Shaped Kitchens

As the name implies, these kitchens are shaped like the letter “L” and maximize corner space. This layout eliminates any problems that you may be experiencing with traffic in your kitchen.

The L-shape allows for an easy dining table layout as well as an easy working space. If you’re interested in learning about designing other spaces in your home, find out more.

4. Horseshoe Kitchens

These layouts are shaped like the letter “U” and optimize space in your home that may be nook-like in design. These kitchens have cabinets and appliances on three connected walls.

There is often an island in the middle of the layout for better space usage. The three-walled design allows a functional traffic flow throughout the kitchen. The spread is optimal for larger kitchens that may have a lot to work with.

5. Peninsula Kitchens

These kitchens are G-shaped. It may seem like we’re going to hit every letter in the alphabet, but this is just a combination of an L-shape and an island.

This layout is great for optimizing space in smaller homes. The extended piece of cabinetry that acts as an island closes off the kitchen from the rest of the room while serving as extra storage and surface space.

Turning the island into a connected surface off of the rest of the preparation space assures that there is more floor room for your family to move around in the small space.
