Cheryl from Snaps of Ginger recreated a beautifully detailed mirror from Anthropologie using only three materials for a grand total of ten dollars! Cheryl started off with a mirrored candle plate from Hobby Lobby, added some metallic gold trim with hot glue, and VOILA! You could easily use this technique to make a larger, eye-catching piece or create several small mirrors with slightly different designs to cluster together. They are so easy why not make a few???

Carmody of Paper & Fox was browsing Anthropologie for inspiration when she came across a beaded zipper pouch with colors and a simple design that she liked. However, Carmody wasn’t fond of the price of the little pouch, so she decided to apply the concept to make her own DIY painting. Sometimes it’s the simplest things that make the biggest impact!

Aubrey of The Crawford Clan had originally planned to put a mirror above the buffet in her dining room but then decided a piece of artwork would “pack a bigger punch.” Not only did Aubrey paint her own abstract art, but she made this project even cheaper by creating her own canvas from a drop cloth she already had. Aubrey is certainly a frugal girl after my own heart! She says, “I’m hardly an artist so this was the perfect skill level for me.  Surprisingly, we’ve had a few visitors even ask where we purchased it from…”

While making over her guest bedroom and office space, Jenna from Rain on a Tin Roof knew the walls needed something more. Instead of spending money on expensive moldings and having to make lots of cuts, Jenna created faux moldings with FrogTape and paint. Plain old rectangles weren’t going to cut it for a fun and funky girl like Jenna, so she added a little flair to the corners with scalloped tape. Is there anything you can’t do with paint???

Like Kim of Simply Living, every DIYer loves a simple and cheap project, and these floating bookshelves are just that! Kim created each shelf using an L bracket and a secondhand book she didn’t mind drilling into. She says, “This is such a fun element, and the fact it was so easy and inexpensive makes it even better!”
