Painted Wooden Halloween Signs

Not wanting to be left out of the Halloween decorating fun in her neighborhood, Lorraine from South Meets Southwest whipped up a few spooky signs to welcome trick-or-treaters to her house. Lorraine saved money by using wood from Home Depot’s scrap pile and paint she already had, making the grand total for all three signs $1.50! Lorraine says, “We might be the last house on our block to decorate for Halloween, but I am just glad I finished these signs before the first trick-or-treater arrived!”

Geometric Pieced Wood Wall Art

For only “$15 and an afternoon of work,” Ashley from Shanty 2 Chic created a stunning piece of wooden art for her wall. I love how this pallet style art combines modern and rustic with the geometric design, natural wood grain, and distressed edges. Talk about a great scrap buster project if you’ve got some extra plywood and boards in your garage.

Rustic Wood Chalkboard Sign

While rummaging through her scrap wood pile, Shawna from Dakota Creek Chic found a piece of wood she had previously tested with a gray wash stain. She immediately knew it would be perfect for turning into a chalkboard sign like one she’d spied online. This project was the best kind for Shawna – absolutely free! She says, “This could be useful in so many ways, messages to the mailman, asking guests to use a different door. The possibilities are endless!”

Wood Chalkboard Tablets

Got some scrap wood and chalkboard paint left over in your garage? Jen from The House of Wood shares a fun little project at Shanty 2 Chic for putting those DIY staples to use! Jen created the cutest little chalkboard tablets that are great for making lists and entertaining the kiddos on car trips. Jen says she also hangs hers by the front door when the kiddos are napping so any visitors will knock instead of ringing the doorbell. Genius! I am just drooling over that aqua-colored chalkboard paint!

Pieced Wood Artwork

Melissa of This Girl’s Life recreated a piece of woodwork art she liked from Pottery Barn to better fit her budget and color-scheme. Melissa knew it was going to be an easy DIY (since it’s literally just pieces of wood!) and had the entire piece of artwork completed in less than a day. Even purchasing all the wood for the project, Melissa still spent only what it would have cost in taxes had she purchased directly from Pottery Barn. You could save even more if you’ve got wood scraps stored away!
