Kristy of Kristy Dickerson had been on the hunt for the perfect shelves to hang above the file cabinets in her office. She finally found some at Restoration Hardware she liked, but just adding two shelves and the brackets to her cart drove the total to $800! Yikes! With a trip to Home Depot, Kristy had all the materials she needed to recreate the reclaimed wood and metal shelves. She did an amazing job distressing the boards to give them that old, worn look.

Shawna from Dakota Creek Chic found an antique factory cart at a local antique store and knew she could build her own version of the Restoration Hardware table that was out of her budget at 1000 bucks. Shawna used Ana White’s plans as a rough guide but was fortunate to already have the cart (that happened to have awesome casters) to use as a base. Here’s what Shawna has to say about her third big project: “This was an easy build, taking only one afternoon to finish. It’s so worth it, and I just love how it turned out. Jaime from That’s My Letter recently moved into a truly vintage home, a circa 1740 saltbox style farmhouse to be exact. Talk about a project playground! When faced with the expense of needing to replace ALL of the interior light fixtures, Jaime came up with a more budget-friendly version of the trendy Edison bulb sconces for her pool room. The style is the perfect addition to an old home with so much history and character.

Stephanie of The Styled Soul loves the “industrial, sleek, and chic” look of Restoration Hardware’s zinc furniture. This love inspired her to refab a stained wine cabinet with a faux zinc finish by layering metallic spray paint. While this project was a long time in the making for Stephanie, she finally finished it and says it came out just as she had hoped.

Aimee of Twigg Studios loves nautical décor and has been adding touches throughout her house like these Restoration Hardware inspired faux metal fishing weights. Aimee created her weights by covering various-sized balls with clay and then layering paint for a rusted metal look. I love how these look in front of the vintage whale species chart Aimee also made.
