Sarah from Sarah M. Dorsey Designs knew exactly what to do with a tree that had fallen down in her backyard – turn it into a shapely, hand-chiseled accent table! Sarah enlisted the help of her husband David, and the couple worked together to remove the bark, cut angles into the stump, sand it smooth, and finally finish it off with paint and glaze. Like Sarah, I love how the glaze brings out the detail of the wood!
Brynne of The Gathered Home loved the gold metallic pillow covers from West Elm and started wondering if it was possible to DIY pillows that had the same metallic luster. The idea of using gold leaf on fabric came to Brynne, and since she already had the supplies on hand, there was nothing to lose! Brynne says, “It turns out you CAN gold leaf fabric, which opens up a world of possibilities – not the least of which is having my own version of my favorite West Elm pillows on my sofa!”
After seeing some glitzy gold chevron glassware, Tamara from Provident Home Design couldn’t help but notice how boring her own plain Jane glasses were. She decided to give her run-of-the-mill glasses a quick makeover with gold nail polish. Here’s from Tamara: “I’ve enjoyed my newly painted glasses so much! I love the sprinkled effect – like the heart is bursting with love! I can’t think of a better way to take a plain pillow cover from drab to fab!
Daniela from Put A Bird On It is all about creating lovely, “Pinterest-worthy” décor on a dime. She also happens to be a sucker for polka dots, so it’s no wonder metallic confetti mugs from West Elm caught her eye. Daniela shares how she made her own decorative mugs with Sharpies. She even took it a step further to customize a mug with her “phrase” for 2014 – Choose Happy.
