Accordion Strands Ribbon Necklace

Most ladies can’t resist a new bauble, and in my book, the bigger the better! I love a statement piece like this accordion strand necklace made by Aubree from Yellow Blackbird. When Aubree first laid eyes on the inspiration necklace from Anthropologie, she immediately knew she could make her own. Sure, it’s not made from real silk, but it’s also not $278! Aubree made her necklace for only a few bucks using grosgrain ribbon, and the effect is just as lovely.

An Open Bookshelf for an Awkward Corner

Whitney from Shanty 2 Chic had an empty space between the couch and window in her living room that she was always struggling to fill. The answer? An open bookshelf design from Ana White that would provide the needed height without blocking the natural light. Whitney again busted out her power tools to whip up this bad boy for under $100. That’s $700 less than her Pottery Barn inspiration!

Thanksgiving Boat Place Holders

Here’s a really cute Thanksgiving idea from Ashley at Simply Designing. With just a bit of felt and a little hand-stitching, she made these little pilgrim boats filled with candy. Wouldn’t these make darling place holders at the “kid’s table?” You could also fill them with small gourds or pinecones if the candy might prevent your little ones from “gobbling” up their turkey.

Scrap Buster Fall Pillow

Allison from Cluck Cluck Sew shares a fabulous pillow cover tutorial to dress up those tired throw pillows this fall. Best of all, this is a “scrap buster” project designed to use up some of that scrap fabric that is taking up valuable closet space. For this fall-inspired pillow, Allison chose fabrics that simulate the colors or fallen leaves. However, Allison points out that the design possibilities are pretty much endless. Just check out the flower pillow she made using the same technique.

DIY Gold Bird Art

This morning I shared a DIY pinboard created by Shauna at Satori Design for Living. If you loved that touch of gold she added to her frame, here’s another gilding project from Shauna that brings on the glitz. Shauna was inspired by a tray featuring a silver leafed bird motif to create framed art with a similar look. All she did was print an image from the computer, trace it onto specialty paper, and paint it in with the gilding. I love that you could use this technique with any design you like to create fab seasonal art – leaves, pinecones, antlers… The possibilities are endless!
