Appliqued Deer Silhouette Pillow

Jessica from Sew Homegrown created this deer head silhouette pillow to add a little festivity to her couch. Jessica’s hubs drew a pattern (that has kindly been made available to Jessica’s readers), which Jessica traced and cut from a colorful, textured fabric. She then used a dense zigzag stitch to sew the deer to the front square of the pillow. Like Jessica, I love that this pillow is seasonal without being too Christmas-y, so you don’t have to pack it up with the rest of your Christmas decorations.

Turn Burlap Scraps Into a Christmas Tree

Burlap is something pretty much every crafty person has on hand. Why not turn a scrap of that fabric into a rustic Christmas tree? Melissa from Two It Yourself made a cone using a piece of cardstock then hot glued on strips of burlap to create loops. Here’s what Melissa has to say about her little burlap tree: “This project was simple and it didn’t cost me a dime because I had everything on hand.  Even if you don’t have burlap in your stash at home, you can still get by making this project for less than $5…”

Make a Herringbone Mirror with Fabric

Jackie from Teal & Lime’s mind was whirling with ways to recreate a herringbone mirror with wood and bone inlay from West Elm – tile, paint, paper??? Then her husband stepped in and suggested fabric. Genius! Jackie already had a mirror with a wide flat frame that was perfect for the project. She covered the edges with veneer and the front with chevron fabric, and voila – a gorgeous and graphic mirror!

Leaf and Acorn Applique Pillow Cover

MJ from 517 Creations spied a lovely autumn pillow with a large, brightly colored leaf and acorns gracing the front. Since the almost $100 price tag completely obliterated any idea of actually purchasing the pillow, MJ simply made her own. MJ stitched a vein detail onto the leaf and then used Heat N’ Bond to attach it to the pillow fabric. She finished it off by stitching around the edges for a lovely fall applique.
