Gemstone Sharpie Wall Art

Lidy from Hello Lidy was inspired to create gem wall art for a corner of her room after spying some striking mirrors from West Elm. Lidy easily mimicked the look of the precious stones with a piece of foam board and a Sharpie. Here’s what Lidy says about her new DIY artwork: “I think it’s super fun and really modernizes that corner of the room. It’s really easy to remove from the wall and then reapply somewhere else if I get too tired of it! Thanks to West Elm, I have some lovely new wall art to look at!”

Large Vertical Wood Christmas Sign

Melissa from Two It Yourself was inspired by a a vertical wood Christmas sign from Pottery Barn to turn a pallet into a sign of her own. And since she already had the materials on hand, it cost her nothing but a little time! Melissa decided to go with a different finish than Pottery Barn’s and used one of her favorite techniques to achieve an aged look. She also customized her text and simply printed the letters from the computer to trace around. I agree with Melissa – her free sign is just as charming as Pottery Barn’s pricey one!

Personalized Transportation Wall Art

Abby from Just a Girl and Her Blog is currently giving her boys’ room a makeover, and they needed art! Abby says she’s too cheap to buy “real” art and knows she can get exactly what she wants through DIY. Abby found a Land of Nod piece that provided awesome inspiration and made her own with basically a stack of scrapbook paper and scissors. I love what Abby says about creating this artwork for her boys: “One of the reasons I love projects like this, though, is that even though it’s not perfect, I was able to give my boys a fun, unique piece of art for their room that they will always know was a gift to them from mommy. There’s something really satisfying about putting your own personal touch on a space, especially when it’s for someone you love!” SO true!!!

Print Your Own Vintage Wall Art

Kerri from Twin Leaf Cottage was inspired by 18th Century armorial art from Restoration Hardware to create her own “super quick, super easy and super inexpensive wall art project.” Sound good??? Kerri isn’t kidding when she says this project is super easy. All she did was find a couple of vintage ephemera images online and have them printed at a copy store for a mere dollar. Kerri then placed her quality prints into frames for her own DIY wall art that looks crazy similar to those pricey prints from RH!

DIY Document Art in Minutes

Allison from The Golden Sycamore included a piece of DIY document art in her fall “mantel” this year that she says cost pennies to create compared to the cost of her inspiration. Allison simply found a French document image from The Graphics Fairy, printed it out, and placed it in an updated Goodwill frame. How easy is that???
