That’s what happened to Melissa of The Happier Homemaker with Pottery Barn’s wooden star panel. Thanks to Melissa’s savvy skills though it turned out to be a blessing! Melissa was about to create her own star art for absolutely nothing using supplies she already had. Melissa says this is a great beginner project for those of you who want to take up wood work in 2014!
After spending months slowly unpacking boxes in her new home, Sarah from Oh Sarah O! knew it was time to address the naked walls. She fell in love with abstract black and white paintings from West Elm, but by the time Sarah had the cash to purchase them, most of the designs were sold out. Sarah decided to grab a canvas and some paintbrushes from her stash and create her own DIY version of the abstract artwork. It’s amazing how similar it looks to the original!
Suzanne of Bitz of Me gave a framed mirror that was too brown for her liking a makeover this holiday season. She first lightened up the frame with some white chalk paint and dark wax and then added a Christmas saying to the glass. The fact that the text is removable makes it perfect for seasonal decorating and special occasions, but I love the idea of adding a beloved saying or Bible verse to a mirror or old window to enjoy the whole year through.
Lidy from Hello Lidy was inspired to create gem wall art for a corner of her room after spying some striking mirrors from West Elm. Lidy easily mimicked the look of the precious stones with a piece of foam board and a Sharpie. Here’s what Lidy says about her new DIY artwork: “I think it’s super fun and really modernizes that corner of the room. It’s really easy to remove from the wall and then reapply somewhere else if I get too tired of it! Thanks to West Elm, I have some lovely new wall art to look at!”
