Vertical Magazine Rack

Like Rachel from Smile and Wave, you may get excited about vertical storage that allows you to maximize small spaces. After finding metal wall hangers at a thrift store, Rachel was inspired to turn them into a leaning magazine rack similar to one she saw from Urban Outfitters. Rachel offers some great suggestions and resources for making your own since you may not find metal wall hangers like she did.

Painted Vanity Tray

On one of her many thrift outings, Kimberly from A Night Owl came across a lovely little antique oval mirror tray from Goodwill for just $1.99. It initially sat unused for a couple of months until Kimberly came across Urban Outfitters’ Cut Lace Vanity Tray. She knew just what she needed to do to incorporate the tray into everyday use and grabbed a can of spray paint!

Painted Mug with Monogram

Would you ever believe this mug was painted? Amazingly, it is! Morena from Morena’s Corner painted this beautiful butterfly and flower design using adhesive silk screens and glass paint from Martha Stewart. With cooler weather approaching, you can never have too many mugs for hot tea and cocoa. I also think these would make great gifts!

Decorative Fireplace Screen

Vone at Vone Inspired needed to update her fireplace but couldn’t afford to buy a $200 screen. Since her family doesn’t use the fireplace, Vone decided she could make something that might not be functional but could at least add to the style of the space.  She did just that by building a screened frame and adding real branches and leaves cut from a soda can. When it’s all spray painted, it looks amazingly like an iron fireplace screen!

Black and Gold Desk

Denise from A Girl and a Brush first saw the Bellatrix chest from Horchow a few months ago and loved the black and gold combination so much that she knew she wanted to use it with some of her pieces. When Denise got an old desk at an auction, there was no question what she wanted to do with it.  A few challenges popped up along the way, but in the end this is one of Denise’s favorite transformations to date!
