Gina from The Shabby Creek Cottage got the idea to turn a hollow core door into a simple, minimalist headboard like one she’d seen from West Elm. Gina didn’t let the fact that the doors are hollow and weak deter her… or the placement of her bed in front of the window. No siree! The clever gal just kept brainstorming ideas until she found one that worked. Gina says the headboard is one of her easiest builds ever and cost only $40.
After living n Hawaii for six years, Becca at From Gardners 2 Bergers has a deep love for the ocean. When she saw preserved sea fan art from Restoration Hardware, Becca knew it was just the touch she needed to bring her room to the level of perfection she strives for while reminding her of Hawaii’s rippling blue waters. Becca used a real sea fan she purchased online and a few craft store materials to make her artwork for a grand total of $25. That’s a saving of $525 compared to her inspiration!
Nicole from ART+POLITICS+Life was inspired by the work of Paul Villinski to make her own stunning wall mural for less than $20 using vinyl, a hand drawn stencil, and scissors. Nicole says, “It’s actually very simple and completely removable if you decide to redecorate. This project is perfect for dorm rooms or any other room that needs a statement piece.”
Honor from Home Heart Craft loves all of Anthropologie’s pretties but often finds herself gawking at their crazy prices. Like over a thousand dollars for a 10” by 10” piece of artwork… how’s that for crazy?!? Honor decided to create her own original artwork using tracing paper, Mod Podge, and a frame. Honor’s little trick of using the tracing paper makes it look like the birdie was painted right onto the old atlas pages.
Mandy of This Girl’s Life had been drooling over a piece of nature wall art from Urban Outfitters, but, alas, it was no longer available. Mandy didn’t shed a tear over the unattainable artwork since she knew she could make her own using a freebie canvas and nature photos. Mandy says, “It turned out exactly how I had imagined and is the perfect art piece for our entryway… And I love that I spent about $5 total for supplies.”
