Steph from Building This Nest had been craving some change to the throw pillows on her couch and loved the look of a pretty rosette pillow cover from Anthropologie. Unfortunately, $58 was definitely not in her budget for a cover alone, and she knew she could make it for way less. Using a $3 sheet from the thrift store, Steph sewed up a cover to fit a pillow form she already had and saved herself a pretty penny. Well, 5,500 pennies actually!
ChiWei from One Dog Woof has always loved the idea of having lots of little drawers to store all those bits and pieces of craft supplies she owns. When a card catalog came up on Craigslist at a reasonable price, ChiWei jumped on it, or rather, had her husband jump on it to ensure she became the proud new owner. ChiWei and her helpful hubby cut the original piece in half to create two consoles, built a new top for one of the pieces, and then gave them a fresh coat of paint. Now instead of one old broken down card catalog, ChiWei has two console tables to hold all of her goodies and plenty of room on top for display!
Kristin from Bliss at Home has been collecting pieces to create the very first gallery wall in her home. Since many of items are smaller, Kristin wanted a feature piece and knew an abstract art collection she’d been eyeing from West Elm would serve as the perfect inspiration. The fun part of this project is that Kristin involved her boys in the creative process. She says, “I love that we made this together and that it will be the key piece to our gallery wall.”
Mable from Tiny Dazzles Blog recently celebrated her daughter’s third birthday and knew the perfect gift for her sweet girl – a doll crib! She found plans for a DIY crib from Ana White and tweaked them a bit to include a changing table and storage shelves. Mable was able to make her crib for only $6 since she already had most of the supplies on hand. That’s $6 well spent since Mable gets to enjoy the sight of her daughter putting her dolls to bed each night. Precious!
When Emily from On the V Side decided to turn her office into a usable craft space, she says there was no question the walls needed a little “pick-me-up.” Emily started with the “simplest of organizational tools” and created a corkboard for the wall. The fun part was that Emily challenged herself to make it for absolutely no cost, using only items she had on hand. Sounds like a girl after my own heart!
