Last summer Therese from Fresh Idea Studio got to spend quality DIY time with her oldest daughter updating her bedroom. One of the things her then soon-to-be high schooler wanted in the space was a beautiful Mongolian lamb fur stool like Jonathan Adler’s $1,595.00 one. Yikes! Of course, Therese worked her magic to make a similar vanity stool for less than $50 using supplies from IKEA.

Thrift Store Geometric Coaster Transformation

For a grand total of $3, Sonnet of SohoSonnet was able to create her own set of colorful, geometric coasters. Sonnet started with a set of Christmas coasters she picked up at the thrift store for $2. She says they were just “screaming” for a makeover and that’s exactly what Sonnet gave them with wood grain paper and paint. It just goes to show that there’s a lot more than meets the eye on those thrift store shelves! With a little creativity, you can have Anthropologie-inspired coasters for a mere $3!

Mid-Century Modern Dresser “Patchwork” Makeover

Sarah from Funcycled planned to refinish a mid-century modern dresser and wanted to do something outside-the-box. She came across West Elm’s patchwork dresser and new it would be the perfect look for her dresser. Sarah and her husband got to work sanding the dresser, painting the box white, and then staining the drawers in a variety of finishes. I love the contrast of the crisp white paint and stain. This is such a fun, statement-making piece!
