Combine Two Rugs to Make a Runner

Lora from Craftivity Designs has always loved a striped runner and was dreaming of one for her office. The Birmingham Black Woven Cotton Rug from Dash and Albert is one of her favorites, but $133 was more than Lora wanted to spend. On a trip to IKEA, she spotted the Soften Rug which had dark gray and white strips just like her inspiration rug. One rug was too small, so Lora picked up two and stitched them together with some fishing line. Now Lora has that 10-foot-long striped runner she was dreaming about for only $50!

Amy from Joyful Daisy just loves MacKenzie Childs’ whimsical furniture and home accents; however, many of the prices are deal breakers! Here’s what Amy has to say about her DIY memo board: “It is a very simple project that can be done in an afternoon and will add so much happiness to your décor and create a functional place to hang favorite photos and momentos. Handmade “Vintage” Bobbins and Spools

Sara of Major Hoff Takes a Wife has a special place in her heart for bobbins and spools. Not only has she long been a seamstress, but Sara’s great grandmother worked as a weaver in a cotton mill. You can find old bobbins at antique stores, flea markets, Etsy, and eBay, OR you can follow Sara’s tutorial to make your own! How cute are these that Sara displayed on her mantel? I love the lace wrapped around it!

Make Your Own Stripe Curtains from Sheets

While planning her daughter’s bedroom, Carissa of Carissa Miss knew pink, vertical stripe curtains were part of the equation. Unfortunately, the custom curtains Carissa had her heart set on were $95 per panel. Like she says, “When you can’t buy what you want, you just DO IT YOURSELF.” And Carissa did – for $32 thanks to Wal-mart’s low prices and selection of flat sheets. Being a frugal gal myself, I love how Carissa used the sheets to save on fabric costs. What a great money-saving tip!
