Large Vintage Schoolhouse Framed Chalkboard

Melanie of The French Cottage had been holding onto a tear-out of a Restoration Hardware chalkboard for years. However, she says her “inner frugalista” would not allow her to spend $499 on a chalkboard. Melanie also knew she could build her own chalkboard for much less and did just that for $50, which isn’t too shabby for a ginormous framed chalkboard. The fact that this chalkboard has a vintage schoolhouse look makes it perfect for Melanie’s son’s playroom. It’s a piece that both mommas and children can enjoy!

Antiqued Christmas Mirror Makeover

Suzanne of Bitz of Me gave a framed mirror that was too brown for her liking a makeover this holiday season. She first lightened up the frame with some white chalk paint and dark wax and then added a Christmas saying to the glass. The fact that the text is removable makes it perfect for seasonal decorating and special occasions, but I love the idea of adding a beloved saying or Bible verse to a mirror or old window to enjoy the whole year through.

Paper Mache Unicorn Head Wall Décor

I am just loving this paper mache unicorn head that Ashley from Lil Blue Boo created for her little one’s playroom. It is unique and fun and really makes a statement! Ashley walks you through the entire process, showing you how she formed the head from newspaper, paper towels, and book pages. I love the look of the black and white text with the hot pink plaque. Didn’t Ashley do an amazing job?!?

Gemstone Sharpie Wall Art

Lidy from Hello Lidy was inspired to create gem wall art for a corner of her room after spying some striking mirrors from West Elm. Lidy easily mimicked the look of the precious stones with a piece of foam board and a Sharpie. Here’s what Lidy says about her new DIY artwork: “I think it’s super fun and really modernizes that corner of the room. It’s really easy to remove from the wall and then reapply somewhere else if I get too tired of it! Thanks to West Elm, I have some lovely new wall art to look at!”

How to Create a Gallery Wall Around Your TV

After hanging the TV on the wall in the family room, Kim from Tidbits & Twine felt it looked sad and lonely floating all by its lonesome.  She decided to better incorporate it into the space by creating a gallery wall around it. Kim picked up some inexpensive frames and art pieces at HomeGoods and also added in a couple of items that she found at the antique faire. I love the collected look and that all the pieces were carefully selected and hold meaning to Kim and her family.
