Stained Wood Shim Starburst Mirror

I hope you enjoyed revisiting the most popular Pottery Barn projects featured over the past few years here at KOD. Today we are going to go a little starburst mirror crazy with two different DIY versions. The first comes from yours truly! I really love the classic look of these mirrors and decided to join the ranks of DIYers who have made their own. However, like I share at Infarrantly Creative, I think I’m the only crazy person who sanded and stained 150 shims to get the job done! Yikes! Trust me when I say that the end result totally makes it worth it though!

DIY Tree Stump Tables

Merril, the Girl of a Thousand Dreams, loves the organic, natural look of tree stump tables but not the price. Individual tables can go for hundreds of dollars. Merril had to have them though! After finding some free tree stumps in good condition, the process was very simple. The bark was removed and the stumps were sanded and finished with four coats of polyurethane. The results are much better than Merril could have imagined, and her wallet is much happier!

Café Shelves for a Long Wall

We all have that large, awkward wall in our homes that we just can’t figure out how to decorate. Lindsay from That Village House found the perfect solution for that wall in her kitchen in Ballard’s café shelves and was inspired to build her own. Lindsay says, “I’m really happy with how they turned out!! The total cost was about $47 for two shelves. Not bad when this look would have cost me $189 plus tax and shipping at Ballard.”

Build and Upholster Your Own Bed

A couple of years ago Kelly from A View Along the Way and her husband built and upholstered an entire bed for their master bedroom. Yep, the whole bed – headboard, frame, platform, and all! Kelly is such a sweetie that she has gone back and chronicled the entire process, including cost and materials, so it is simple to understand. How impressive is this???

Build Your Own Kids Armoire

Here’s the latest DIY furniture addition to her daughter’s big girl room from Whitney at Shanty 2 Chic. Whitney followed plans from Ana White to construct this gorgeous armoire that is jam packed with storage. The inside has both shelves and drawers so there’s plenty of room for clothes, toys, and even a television. My favorite part is that you can simply shut the doors to hide away any mess. That’s my favorite way to clean {wink}!
