This kilim upholstered bench made by Lindsay from The White Buffalo Styling Co. is a match made in thrift store heaven! Lindsay, a kilim-loving gal, was in need of a bench for her mudroom. She headed straight to the thrift store where she found a wood and metal bench, a Navajo blanket, and a sleeping bag for batting. She combined the three items together to create this beauty!
Inspired by glass cloches, like those from Restoration Hardware, Susan of saf affect was on the hunt for a thrifty alternative. She scored two industrial glass light fixture globes at a Habitat for Humanity Restore for only a few dollars. Placed on a tray with a few interesting objects, you’d never guess they were once used for lighting. What a great repurpose!
I know people often look at the things in thrift stores and garage sales and wonder what in the world it is and who would ever buy it. Like a nut bowl that looks like it was cut from a tree trunk. Where one person sees a strange, old nut bowl, a creative genius like Caitlin from the Desert Domicile sees an urban chic Anthropologie-inspired mirror. Caitlin took the $5 nut bowl and in just a few steps turned it into this amazing mirror that seriously gives the Anthro inspiration a run for its money. I love how Caitlin used one of her late grandmother’s Mexican woven belts so the mirror is not only stylin’ but meaningful.
Christin from Pregnant with Power Tools loves “décor that goes beyond the norm,” like the armillary which she describes as scientific, mysterious, and gorgeous. You can add expensive to that list since even a “cheap” one from Pottery Barn cost $130! Thankfully, Christin shares at Someday Crafts how she made her own for less than $10 using embroidery hoops and a thrifted candlestick. She says, “There are so many ways you can personalize this! Kirsten simply painted her candlesticks and then glued them between the cake pans to create her stand. I love that this is made from repurposed materials and cost only $6, especially considering what a versatile piece it is!
