Becky from Reinventing the Ordinary loved the look and functionality of a Pottery Barn storage bed for her daughter’s college room but needed a cheaper alternative. Surprisingly, college tuition doesn’t really leave an extra $1000 sitting in the bank for a bed! Becky created a fabulous $100 version with some beadboard, molding, and plywood that fit their needs (and budget) to perfection!
Jennifer from The Chronicles of Home inherited her great-grandfather’s love for building things with her hands and is now following in his footsteps as an upholsterer. They were once just white cheapo napkins from Walmart, but with a little paint and a fabric marker, Janel gave them stand-out style. Break these out at a party, and all your guests will be asking where you got them!
Merril, the Girl of a Thousand Dreams, loves the organic, natural look of tree stump tables but not the price. Individual tables can go for hundreds of dollars. Merril had to have them though! After finding some free tree stumps in good condition, the process was very simple. The bark was removed and the stumps were sanded and finished with four coats of polyurethane. The results are much better than Merril could have imagined, and her wallet is much happier!
Morena of Morena’s Corner put her own twist on Anthropologie’s teapot lamp to create a unique birdbath for her Mad Hatter-inspired garden. As usual, Morena’s local Goodwill did not disappoint, providing a ceramic teapot and all the cups and saucers Morena’s crafty heart could desire. I love how Morena took a design she loved and made it suit her needs.
