Decorative Wood Spheres for Only $5

Sawdust Girl Sandra created some large wooden spheres as a decorative accent for her home. She was inspired by iron spheres that cost from $165 to $225 per sphere. Ouch! Sandra on the other hand made two for only $5. How? She ripped thin strips from a 1×3 and then tried her hand at wood bending for the first time. Sandra says it turned out to be quite easy and saved her a truckload of cash!

Decorative Gold Spheres from Clay

Decorative spheres are a fun way to add interest to a bookshelf or tabletop. Shelley from Crazy Wonderful saw some from West Elm that she thought were pretty stinkin’ cool – just not at $70 for a pair! Shelley instead sculpted her own from clay and finished them in gold  just like her inspiration. I love how metallic spray paint can give an inexpensive material like clay such a beautiful, lustrous finish. You’d never know they aren’t real metal!

Appliqued Deer Silhouette Pillow

Jessica from Sew Homegrown created this deer head silhouette pillow to add a little festivity to her couch. Jessica’s hubs drew a pattern (that has kindly been made available to Jessica’s readers), which Jessica traced and cut from a colorful, textured fabric. She then used a dense zigzag stitch to sew the deer to the front square of the pillow. Like Jessica, I love that this pillow is seasonal without being too Christmas-y, so you don’t have to pack it up with the rest of your Christmas decorations.

5-Minute Loopy Burlap Christmas Tree

I have seen a few tutorials for making burlap Christmas trees, but I really love the results Candace from Vintage News Junkie got with her loopy burlap tree. This is one of those projects you can likely whip up without a trip to the store, so it’s a perfect last-minute addition to your mantle or tablescape. All you need is paper for a cone, burlap, and glue. If you’ve got a few minutes, you can make this tree!
