DIY Decoupage Bird Art

Honor from Home Heart Craft loves all of Anthropologie’s pretties but often finds herself gawking at their crazy prices. Like over a thousand dollars for a 10” by 10” piece of artwork… how’s that for crazy?!? Honor decided to create her own original artwork using tracing paper, Mod Podge, and a frame. Honor’s little trick of using the tracing paper makes it look like the birdie was painted right onto the old atlas pages.

Repurpose Plastic Animals into Pushpins

If you have kids, you have undoubtedly acquired a set of little plastic animals somewhere along the way. Lora from Craftivity Designs shares a great project for upcycling the toys into fun pushpins that would add pizzazz to any corkboard. Lora spray painted her animals a crisp white, but I also think they’d be a great way to incorporate a pop of color into a space. It makes you look at your kids’ toys in a whole new light when you envision them with a coat of spray paint {giggle}!

From Plastic to Zinc Letters

The wedding gurus over at Heart Love Weddings recreated Anthropologie’s popular zinc letters in miniature form to be used as cake toppers. In addition to being the perfect DIY for a rustic wedding, the metallic letters look great framed for table numbers or home and office décor. And would you believe they are made from plastic children’s magnetic alphabet letters? They sure do clean up nicely with some paint!

Blue Upholstered Bench with Casters

In my earlier feature of Sarah M Dorsey Design’s painted curtains, you may have noticed the beautiful blue bench situated below the window. That beauty just happens to be another knock-off created by the very talented Sarah. Sarah built the bench frame and then upholstered it and added special details like turned legs and casters. Sarah says she saved on some of her materials and splurged on others to create her bench for around $100. I am so impressed by her mad skills!

Paper Chandelier from Cupcake Liners

While browsing through Anthropologie, Heather from Poppy Haus couldn’t help but take notice of how they use everyday items to create their eye-catching displays. Thus, she was inspired to recreate their stunning paper chandelier using an item you very well have in your kitchen right now – cupcake liners! Heather shares at Design Sponge how she added depth and texture to a paper lantern by covering it with solid cupcake liners inset with striped petite four papers. The soft glow and graphic effect are simply stunning!
