Wood and “Metal” Console Table from Scraps

Monica from East Coast Creative says her entryway was in desperate need of a “stylish, but functional table.” Like a $1,099 table from Pottery Barn made from reclaimed wood and steel – except without the $1,099 price tag. Actually, it came with no price tag at all! Monica used wood she had leftover from other projects to build the table and then finished it off with spray paint and stain. It’s amazing how much the metallic spray paint looks like metal. Sure had me fooled!

Decorative Golden Wishbone

Roeshel of The DIY Showoff tried her hand at working with clay for the first time to create this oversized wishbone that’s perfect for the Thanksgiving season. Roeshel’s DIY wishbone cost way less than her $58 inspiration and allows for custom sizing. From one pack of clay and one can of gold spray paint, you can make several wishbones, so Roeshel suggests making them as gifts or even as pretty package toppers.

Fun and Festive Pom-Pom Table Runner

With the entertaining season upon us, it’s the perfect time to dress up your table with festive linens. Mary from At Home on the Bay shares a simple tutorial for creating a fun pom-pom table runner like one she saw at Anthropologie. Mary says, “It had colorful layers of pom-pom trim that added the perfect playful touch of whimsy to what was otherwise a plain white table runner. I new I could create a version that would be just as cute and more affordable for my budget.” And that’s exactly what she did! Isn’t it darling?!?

Make a Herringbone Mirror with Fabric

Jackie from Teal & Lime’s mind was whirling with ways to recreate a herringbone mirror with wood and bone inlay from West Elm – tile, paint, paper??? Then her husband stepped in and suggested fabric. Genius! Jackie already had a mirror with a wide flat frame that was perfect for the project. She covered the edges with veneer and the front with chevron fabric, and voila – a gorgeous and graphic mirror!

Personalized Transportation Wall Art

Abby from Just a Girl and Her Blog is currently giving her boys’ room a makeover, and they needed art! Abby says she’s too cheap to buy “real” art and knows she can get exactly what she wants through DIY. Abby found a Land of Nod piece that provided awesome inspiration and made her own with basically a stack of scrapbook paper and scissors. I love what Abby says about creating this artwork for her boys: “One of the reasons I love projects like this, though, is that even though it’s not perfect, I was able to give my boys a fun, unique piece of art for their room that they will always know was a gift to them from mommy. There’s something really satisfying about putting your own personal touch on a space, especially when it’s for someone you love!” SO true!!!
