Faux Clam Shell Planter

Tami of Curb Alert is a pro at taking trash and turning it into treasure. She had found a bright orange plastic clam shell at the Goodwill. Sure, it made a great chip bowl for her luau, but it wasn’t décor Tami would want displayed on her table everyday. At least not until she took it from tacky to classy with a can of stone texture spray paint!

Painted Wood Patterned Coasters

Abby at Just a Girl and Her Blog recently came upon some colorful coasters at Anthropologie that she absolutely loved and immediately thought, “I can make those!” With some plywood, washi tape, and a little bit of paint, Abby easily created her own coasters that are really similar to the original– and they were free since she had the supplies on hand. I love when even a coaster can add some serious style to your space!

Faux Metal Pedestal Side Tables

There is no doubt that Joan of Nicer Than New is drawn to pedestal tables. She bought not one but EIGHT at an estate sale. Two of them were from the Bombay company, sporting their signature dark mahogany finish… that was peeling, bubbling, and definitely in need of sprucing up. While drooling over the goodies offered at Joss and Main, Joan spotted an aluminum pedestal table, and the light bulb went off. She happened to have some aluminum colored paint leftover from another project and used it to give these two tables a new life of glamour!

Wood Shim Dresser Makeover

Holly, one of the crafty gals behind My Sister’s Suitcase and a contributor at Tatertots & Jello, is quick to admit that she has “West Elm taste on a thrift store budget.” It was their wood tile furniture that flipped Holly’s DIY switch and motivated her on to update her current dresser with wood shims. The shims facilitated the project, allowing Holly to work with only limited tools and avoid cutting a bunch of wood. You’ve got to check out the before pics to appreciate how Holly totally changed the look of her dresser from traditional to modern.
