DIYing an entire lamp may sound challenging, but believe me when I say that Sarah’s tutorial makes it as easy as pie!
Décor Chick Emily was inspired to turn an old cutting board she already had into a piece of adorable wall décor for her dreamy white kitchen. Emily just brushed on a couple of coats of chalkboard paint, drilled a hole in the handle, and put it on display with a pretty white ribbon. Emily suggests checking out thrift stores for old cutting boards to make this project very affordable. If you start gathering them now, these would make great Christmas gifts!
This morning I shared a DIY pinboard created by Shauna at Satori Design for Living. If you loved that touch of gold she added to her frame, here’s another gilding project from Shauna that brings on the glitz. Shauna was inspired by a tray featuring a silver leafed bird motif to create framed art with a similar look. All she did was print an image from the computer, trace it onto specialty paper, and paint it in with the gilding. I love that you could use this technique with any design you like to create fab seasonal art – leaves, pinecones, antlers… The possibilities are endless!
One of my blogging buddies, Jen from Tatertots and Jello, recently completed a crazy gorgeous master bedroom makeover. One of the things Jen knew she wanted for the space was a bench at the end of the bed, specifically one that with a modern yet rustic feel. Jen found the perfect bench online that offered the clean, simple lines she craved with a reclaimed finish. Since it was a bit too shallow for her space, Jen headed straight to Lowe’s to DIY. She ended up adding metal supports so the bench wouldn’t wobble, which totally adds to the overall design and industrial vibe Jen was after. Well done, my friend!
Morena of Morena’s Corner is spot-on when she says metallics are everywhere in the design world right now. Yesterdays bright orange pumpkins are now being seen in shimmering mercury glass and silvery pewters. Morena shares how you can use spray paint and acrylic paint to transform dollar store pumpkins into pewter look-a-likes. Her technique could be used on any little knick-knack you find at the dollar store or thrift store to give it a more high end look.
