DIY Pallet Headboard

A bed without a headboard can be a boring thing, but if you live on a tight budget, maybe a headboard is the last thing on your list you wish to spend money on. Emily from scribblesfromemily shows us how to create a beautiful custom headboard using old or reclaimed pallets.

DIY Pallet HeadboardThis is a relatively simple project starting with deconstructing the pallet and removing any old screws or nails. Four boards placed horizontally are the perfect number to build a headboard for a double bed. Once the boards are joined together and the headboard is sanded, it’s time to stain the wood. Emily supplies a genius recipe for creating your own stain using vinegar and a steel wool pad placed inside a glass jar. The resulting stain is absolutely beautiful.

The stain is painted on and when it’s dry, it’s time to attach legs to the headboard and attach it to the bed frame.

Do not use pallet wood for an inside project. Pallets are coated with chemicals to kill bugs in order to keep the pallets useable time and again. Instead, use cedar fencing that you can get from a box store. It would take just 4 untreated 6 ft pieces, cut into different lengths to make a project just like this one. You can stain them different colors of stain and they would look terrific! https://www.1001pallets.com/pallet-safety/
