DIY Bench From A Dresser Tutorial

Extra seating anywhere in the house is a wonderful thing, but extra seating with extra storage is a real plus. Brooke from startathomedecor created just that from an old dresser, and she explains exactly how she did it.

The dresser she started with was in terrible condition, but the frame was oak and it still had a sturdy frame so she started the project by removing the top, the drawers and the dividers. Once this was done, she cut it down to seating size. A lot of elbow grease went into sanding, priming and painting the dresser at this point. Brooke added some molding to the remaining drawer which will be placed under the seat of the bench and painted it also. She then added a brown glaze and a clear protective topcoat to the piece. An optional step would be to sew a comfy cushion with a coordinating cover for the seat.
