Wood Coffee Table to Tufted Ottoman

Abbie from Five Days Five Ways was ready for a change from the serviceable wood coffee table she had in her living room. She had her heart set on a large tufted ottoman but knew it would come with an equally large price tag. While Abbie says she doesn’t do pricey, she does do DIY and quickly set out on turning a square coffee table from Craigslist into the ottoman of her dreams. I love how Abbie repurposed a table and think her lovely ottoman is the icing on the cake in her gorgeously decorated living room.

Bright Yellow Pineapple Table Lamp

On a recent visit to the thrift store, Brandi from Don’t Disturb This Groove found a pineapple gold leaf lamp. She had no problems painting over the finish and searched the internet for inspiration. Horchow delivered with an eye-catching pineapple lamp that was just the inspiration Brandi needed! She spray painted the lamp yellow and added a new shade. Here’s what Brandi has to say about her thrift store lamp makeover: “Yellow suits her so well. I love this lamp with its new look. There’s nothing better than finding used treasures then turning them into something new!”

Upholstered Coffee Table Ottoman

If you had to choose between dishing out almost a grand for an upholstered bench from Horchow or making your own for a mere $50, I think it’s safe to say we’d all head straight for the hardware store. Nan from You Could Make That shows that it doesn’t take an experienced carpenter/upholsterer to make a bench or ottoman from scratch. Nan simply used a piece of plywood and table legs for the base and then got a seamless upholstered finish by adding  a pleated skirt and decorative trim. Not only is the end product beautiful but super strong and sturdy!

Felt Christmas Trees

Today’s all about Christmas trees here at KOD! I’ve got a couple of projects to showcase that show there are more options out there than just the traditional evergreen boughs. Gail from Purple Hues and Me created this trio of red trees by cutting felt leaves and adhering them to cone forms. What a simple way to make a statement on a tabletop or mantel!

Capiz Shell Pendant Light

Kelly from View Along the Way was on a mission to tackle the bare handing light bulbs in her home one bulb at a time. A pricey capiz shell chandelier from Horchow caught her eye, but it was a tea light holder from TJMaxx that actually made the dream a reality. Kelly and her husband turned the candle holder and an IKEA lamp into their own pretty pendant.
