Brandi from Blue Cedar Lane was hitting her favorite shopping spot (aka Goodwill) when she saw a blindingly bright orange flower vase. The vase reminded Brandi of one she had been eyeing at Anthropologie so she grabbed it up. With some paint Brandi was able to achieve the same color combo she loved about her inspiration.
Mel from Junkin’ Junky found a set of four chairs at Goodwill for only $5 a piece. While the price was awesome, the chairs… not so much. Mel describes them as boring with a brown finish that scratched easily. She was inspired to update the color to a pretty blue and then add pizzazz with a vinyl swirl design. Talk about a transformation from brown and boring to blue and bold!
Christine from Let’s Get Crafty really liked the “texture and simple design” of West Elm’s Decorative Bowl Art. She took a trip to her local Goodwill (where there are baskets aplenty) and snagged one for less than $2 to turn into her own piece of wall art. Christine says that the weave of her basket is a “dead ringer” for her inspiration, and all she needed was a black Sharpie to complete the transformation!
Jae from Design O.C.D. has a love affair with trays and uses them in pretty much every room of her home. When she found a tray at the Goodwill for only $2, she of course scooped it up for her collection. Jae decided she wanted her new tray to have a flashy, metallic look and pulled it off with a gold leafing kit. Like Rachel from Smile and Wave, you may get excited about vertical storage that allows you to maximize small spaces. After finding metal wall hangers at a thrift store, Rachel was inspired to turn them into a leaning magazine rack similar to one she saw from Urban Outfitters.
