This is such a simple project thanks to Beth’s genius brainstorm to use the Cubeicals!

Best of PB #3: Platform Storage Bed for a College Dorm Room

Becky from Reinventing the Ordinary loved the look and functionality of a Pottery Barn storage bed for her daughter’s college room but needed a cheaper alternative. Surprisingly, college tuition doesn’t really leave an extra $1000 sitting in the bank for a bed! Becky created a fabulous $100 version with some beadboard, molding, and plywood that fit their needs (and budget) to perfection!

Best of PB #2: Wooden Tray to Hanging Jewelry Organizer

Melissa from A Time for Everything created this vintage piece to hold all of her jewelry. Melissa said, “I love old wood spools and finding new ways to use them, especially after finding a large Ziploc bagful for $2 at a garage sale.  As I was making my jewelry organizer, I knew that spools would be an ideal fit with the burlap and distressed wood I was using.  I incorporated them to hang not only necklaces, but bracelets as well.”

Wood Shim DIY Wall Art

This morning I shared a sunburst mirror that was created with wood shims. Katie from Upcycled Treasures also used the handy little sticks to create décor for her walls. She painted, cut, and pieced together her shims to make a large piece of framed wood art. Katie strategically placed her new artwork over a metal door in her hallway that was quite the eyesore. Don’t you love the texture of the uneven shims?

That she did by adding casters to baskets purchased from Michaels. Samantha says, “I love my new magazine baskets! If you have the same hoarding issue, I hope this little organization project inspires you to create your own storage and save a little money.”
