Brynne of The Gathered Home fell in love with the Block 2 light created by the talented Henry Pilcher and immediately knew she wanted to do a “spinoff” DIY. Instead of recreating the look with wood as in the original, Brynne decided to use copper plumbing pipe. She also used an Ikea Foto pendant, spray painted glossy black, and built the icosahedron around it with copper pipe pieces and copper wire. Inspiration: $2111. Brynne’s DIY version: $50.
Lisa from Salt Marsh Cottage fell in love with an eclectic dresser that looked like it had been “crafted from random pieces of reclaimed wood.” Since it was discontinued (and $495!), Lisa recreated the effect with an unfinished pine dresser from IKEA. The unassembled piece made the project a cinch and only cost $35. As Lisa says, this is a great project even if you don’t consider yourself a great painter. Imperfection is part of the beauty, so you really can’t mess it up!
Monica and Jess of East Coast Creative were inspired by one of the amazing projects in their Creating with the Stars competition last March to transform an unfinished wood nightstand from IKEA into a truly unique and eye-catching piece. The crafty gals cut and stained wood pieces in varying shades to have the look of pricey tile and then glued them to the drawer fronts. Thanks to IKEA’s $35 nightstands, it cost less than $100 for the PAIR of stylin’ nightstands.

That’s why she found a way around spending a fortune on the wingback rocking chair she wanted for the nursery by instead looking for the perfect chair to convert. The answer came in the IKEA Strandmon wingback chair which Kenz combined with some unfinished runners she found online to create the ultimate rocking experience!
Mary Anne from Purposedly Reinvented was in need of some baskets to tame the media mess that had taken over her built-in console. Some wire baskets from Pottery Barn sent her straight into “knock off mode.” With the help of IKEA and a trusty can of spray paint, Mary Anne got the same look for way less than cash!
