Whitney from Shanty 2 Chic knew she wanted a large chalkboard like one from Restoration Hardware for her entryway – just not for $300. And why buy one when you can make it yourself for about $15? And in one hour no less! Whitney’s easy DIY chalkboard tutorial builds upon an existing chalkboard that she purchased from Hobby Lobby. Whitney added on to the existing frame with some furring strips and pine casing, transforming the plain Jane frame into a real showstopper!
Camille from Imperfectly Imaginable made her daughter’s birthday dreams come true with this UH-mazing retro kitchen she and her hubs built. This baby has all the bells and whistles – real stove grates, oven shelves, a clock, and even a retro freezer thermometer. Lisa from Salt Marsh Cottage fell in love with an eclectic dresser that looked like it had been “crafted from random pieces of reclaimed wood.” Since it was discontinued (and $495!), Lisa recreated the effect with an unfinished pine dresser from IKEA. The unassembled piece made the project a cinch and only cost $35. As Lisa says, this is a great project even if you don’t consider yourself a great painter. Imperfection is part of the beauty, so you really can’t mess it up!

She also happens to be a sucker for polka dots, so it’s no wonder metallic confetti mugs from West Elm caught her eye. Daniela shares how she made her own decorative mugs with Sharpies.
