Easy DIY Framed Chalkboard

Whitney from Shanty 2 Chic knew she wanted a large chalkboard like one from Restoration Hardware for her entryway – just not for $300. And why buy one when you can make it yourself for about $15? And in one hour no less! Whitney’s easy DIY chalkboard tutorial builds upon an existing chalkboard that she purchased from Hobby Lobby. Whitney added on to the existing frame with some furring strips and pine casing, transforming the plain Jane frame into a real showstopper!

Shabby Chic Painted Dresser

Lisa from Salt Marsh Cottage fell in love with an eclectic dresser that looked like it had been “crafted from random pieces of reclaimed wood.” Since it was discontinued (and $495!), Lisa recreated the effect with an unfinished pine dresser from IKEA. The unassembled piece made the project a cinch and only cost $35. As Lisa says, this is a great project even if you don’t consider yourself a great painter. Imperfection is part of the beauty, so you really can’t mess it up!

Kids Play Canopy Even the Beginner Can Sew!

Forts made out of sheets… zippered play tents…large cardboard boxes… Kids love having their own “secret” hideaways. Christina from 2 Little Hooligans shares at The Girl Creative how she created a special retreat for her little ones using a hula hoop and twin sheets. Christina says this is a beginner project that takes just a couple of hours, and you sure can’t beat the price when store-bought play tents like this cost well over $100. It’s so stinkin’ cute that I want to crawl inside!
