Copycat

Bonnie of Uncommon Designs loves to browse catalogs, not so much to see what she can buy but what she cake make! When she stumbled on a simple and sweet Valentine tea towel from Anthropologie, Bonnie knew she already had everything she needed to recreate it. Bonnie used Heat n’ Bond to make her own adorable ribbon heart applique and then added the extra stitching detail at the bottom of the towel with red and white baker’s twine. Bonnie says, “It really does not take much to make you home festive for special occasions, and this sweet kitchen towel will be the perfect little accent in our home!”

Heather of Setting for Four loves decorating her house with beautiful bowls and plates. Throw in Kate Spade’s “sophisticated yet playful” style, and Heather’s totally smitten! Heather replicated the look of Kate’s Confetti Collection on a plain white bowl using reinforcement stickers and nail polish. The stickers made for perfect circles with zero fuss. While this lovely dish can definitely be year-round, Heather points out that the touch of pink is also perfect for celebrating Valentine’s Day.

With a house full of boys, Rachel of Maison de Pax has never been one to go over-the-top for Valentine’s Day. However, pillows sporting frayed X’s and O’s caught Rachel’s eye as a subtle way to show a little love. Rachel whipped a pair up with rich red velvet and leftover drop cloth for only $4 a piece and couldn’t be more pleased with the result!

If you are one to frequently change out décor, you can’t beat chalk art. Jami from An Oregon Cottage found a piece of framed pressboard artwork from the thrift store and used paint to turn it into a chalkboard. She then used her tried-and-true chalk transfer method to draw a subway sign like those sold at Restoration Hardware. Before sporting this train sign, Jami’s chalkboard made an appearance in her Christmas gallery wall. And guess what? When she’s had her fill of the subway sign art, she can simply wipe it away and draw something new!

Amber, a Knock Off Décor reader without a blog, really wanted a linen headboard for her new king-sized bed. While online prices were of course high, shipping to Canada added another monstrous expense. Amber and her husband decided instead to build their own headboard with deep tufts and nailhead trim and are sharing their steps right here on KOD!
