Michelle from Our Crafty Mom took on a major refinishing project to transform her 25-year-old pickled oak dining table into a gorgeous Restoration Hardware-inspired piece.
She began by stripping off three layers of old paint using Citristrip, a safer option for indoor use.
To enhance the stripping process, she covered the table with garbage bags overnight, a tip she picked up from Pinterest.

The next morning, Michelle scraped off the softened paint layers and then sanded the entire table using a Porter Cable Orbit Sander with 60-grit sandpaper.
This revealed the beautiful oak grain that had been hidden for years.
For the finish, she applied Weatherwood Stains’ Reclamation stain, a reactive stain that weathers the wood as it dries, followed by two coats of their White Maintenance Oil.

This combination achieved the desired weathered oak look, giving the table a driftwood-like appearance with gray tones.
Michelle painted the base of the table white to complement her coastal decor theme.
She notes that different woods react differently to the stain, so it’s important to test on a sample piece first.
If you’re looking to give your furniture a high-end, weathered finish, Michelle’s detailed process is a great guide to follow. Check it out at Our Crafty Mom.
