Therese of Fresh Idea Studio finally wrapped up a project that she had promised her oldest daughter over six months ago – a “furlicious” chair that will actually make your kids want to sit and do their homework! Therese simply covered an existing desk chair with a faux fur rug from IKEA. This isn’t some difficult upholstery project only an experience seamstress can pull off. Therese’s genius in using the rug makes the process so simple, and she even suggests skipping the needle and thread altogether and using hot glue if that’s more your speed.

When her son requested a new desk for his bedroom, Bharati of Techie’s DIY Adventures politely turned down her husband’s offer to buy one and started scouring Craigslist for fixer uppers. She finally found a desk that had definitely seen better days, BUT it was only $15 and close to home. Whoop whoop! Bharati performed quite the miraculous makeover with a little love and a lot of elbow grease. It’s pretty amazing what a can of paint and roll of beadboard wallpaper can do!

Angelica from Once Again, My Dear Irene took her daughter’s run-of-the-mill slatted wood headboard and transformed it into a chic and upscale one for only $13. Angelica went on a repurposing spree by wrapping the existing headboard with batting and foam and lastly fabric from a grey shower curtain that was no longer in use. She even managed to fabulously pull-off the embroidered monogram – and by hand no less! Angelica asks, “Does this headboard look like I spent only $13 on it?” I think we all know the answer to that {Wink}!

Cassie from Hi Sugarplum wanted to create a command center to help her son keep track of his increasingly busy schedule and social life. It wasn’t hard for Cassie to make a DIY version that came in far cheaper than PB Teen’s expensive tile board sets. Cassie says it was surprisingly simple to make and would also be great for a an entire family since the panels can easily be customized to fit your needs.
