Rachel from Maison de Pax had been dreaming of an antique looking crib for her son’s room but couldn’t justify the expense when she already a perfectly good crib. Imagine her excitement when she got a call about a FREE white spindle crib. Rachel of course snatched it up and then achieved the look she was after with flat white spray paint, stain, and a dark wax. She sewed a simple crib skirt with box pleats out of drop cloth to complete the look… for a grand total of $7!

Natalie from Sophisticated Yellow came across an ad for Restoration Hardware's Montpellier Armoire and fell in love with its dark, bold, and commanding look. Not surprisingly, it was also expensive. However, Natalie happened to have two old armoires sitting in her garage that looked remarkably similar. A few coats of paint later and some light sanding was all it took to transform her old armoires into Restoration Hardware's black beauties.

Larissa from The House on Harrison wanted some candlesticks for her master bath and found beautiful gold and white candle holders from Pottery Barn that were perfect for the space. Not surprisingly, the price was crazy, which propelled Larissa to refab some candlesticks of her own with spray paint and glaze. I think it’s amazing how Larissa’s use of glaze adds such depth and actually gives the appearance of carved stone.
