Easy Guide to Setting Up Your Minimalist Home Kitchen

5:41 AM By Julia Carlisle

Living the minimalist lifestyle is about having and being content with only the things you need.

Being a minimalist is being free from the desire to purchase and to have more.

Instead of this, you live in finding happiness in relationships and experiences.

Minimalist life also gives you less financial burdens like debt and any other necessary expenses.

And living a minimalist life starts at your home, even if you are not the one who cooks, you still spend a lot of time in your kitchen eating or lounging around.

This is why it is the most used and probably the most crowded space in your home.

So it is more than fair why simplifying this space is one of the best decisions you could ever do.

Take a look at this easy guide on setting up your minimalist home kitchen.

STORE YOUR STUFF PROPERLY

The basic fundamental of a minimalist kitchen is how you store your stuff properly.

It starts when you get rid of all unnecessary junk that you’ve been hoarding and in your kitchen for the past years.

Storing your stuff in a minimalist kitchen is very easy, you just have to be creative.

For example, you should get a spice rack that you can put all of your spices together prettily.

If you have lots of small snacks or food items, you can store them in sleek glass canisters or Tupperware.

For your pots, you can invest in a hanging pot rack or time to make use of reorganizing your cupboards.

Another thing is labeling all the canisters so you can easily see them when you are looking for them.

It’s much easier for you to move around the kitchen too if you create space and ease in your kitchen.

THINK ABOUT WHAT APPLIANCES YOU NEED

If an appliance doesn’t have a space you can put in on the counter, then don’t get it.

Most appliances are too big and unnecessary, they can be bulky and just be a big waste of space just sitting there on your counter.

You can consider space saving kitchen appliances, with this modern technology most of the kitchen appliances are built half of their usual size while retaining all of their features and purpose.

Just think of the appliances you really need, but be careful of throwing it away and buying.

Think of how much and what you always cook, from then, decide what appliances but be really useful to you.

If you are busy and always on the go, you should invest in a trusty microwave, if you drink coffee often, look for a good coffee maker that is dainty.

Now there are lots of mini microwaves, coffee makers, oven toasters, and the likes that are built-in smaller and sleek designs which is a better fit for your minimalist kitchen.

ONLY BUY DISHWARE AND CUTLERIES YOU NEED

Whoever said that you should get different plates for different occasions is an advocate for hoarding.

Most of us don’t even need a cabinet with different designs, types, classes, and sizes of glasses and plates while in reality we only use just the regular ones.

If you think about it, you only need dishes as much as people in your family.

And in terms of knives, spoon, and fork, you don’t need 12 sets of those unless you’re in a culinary school.

You don’t need a lot of knives – you need better knives. Investing in a quality chef’s knife, a paring knife, and a bread knife would be a good idea.

Lastly, store all of your cookware and appliances into one cupboard and your dishes in another.

Choose what dishes you want to use and keep and whatever you don’t need you should give away.

YOU DON’T NEED TOO MANY COOKWARE

You probably have a friend or a family member who likes buying those twelve set pans on television shopping, and you don’t need that unless you are on a cooking show on a food network.

Or maybe you have that dream of having a lot of pans and other cookware for your own kitchen, but the reality is you don’t need and will not even use half of that stuff.

The reason is, when it comes to having cookware, there isn’t much that you need.

One reliable cutting board is enough, and in terms of pots and pans, you only need one of each.

The key times you really need is one stockpot, cast iron skillet, a frying pan and sauce pots of different size.

Other than this, you don’t need to pull up your space with plenty of pots and pans.

Focus on a few high-quality items, and throw out or give away things you never use.

STOP HOARDING FOOD

Food is the most important thing in the kitchen, and they took a lot of space too.

You can efficiently declutter food by checking what food is in your kitchen right now.

Remove all the expired sauces and condiments sitting on your cupboard and refrigerator, check canned goods that you’ve been keeping for too long, inspect your refrigerator for meals that should be thrown away or cooked right away.

Check all the items that you have before you do your grocery shopping again, try cooking and planning what you already have.

Set out a weekly meal plan so you can minimize food waste.

You should also put away all the food items showing in your kitchen, as this makes the kitchen look really crowded and messy when food is sitting out.

The effort and pressure to declutter your kitchen is very hard for both food and kitchen appliances for that matter.

According to Allgreatappliances.com without a decent amount of storage, your appliances can begin to stack up, and the massive amount of clutter in your kitchen can completely ruin any progress you’ve made toward your minimalist kitchen design.

Every day, we are seeing images and advertisements for the latest cookware and gadgets.

This makes us want to buy more, we have the pressure to keep piling up our kitchens with more stuff – even when we likely have no use for them.

Deciding to live the minimalist life and have a clean and clutter-free kitchen will make you feel better.

And our last tip is, always remember quality over quantity.
