DIY can save us a lot of money, and sometimes it is totally OK to spend on some fabulous products that make people’s lives a little bit more beautiful. In this post, we showcase an ethical décor brand called Sukhi and their lovely handmade rugs.
We all know how much a rug can pull a room together! They are perfect for going under your coffee table, reading chair, or to break up a large stretch of echoing hardwood or tile floors. Rugs are incredibly time consuming to make yourself, and the look and feel a rug can give to your room is totally worth the extra cash for a quality piece.
But how many rug brands do you know that connect you to the artisans who made your rug?
Wool and natural material rugs from Sukhi are made completely by hand by artisans from Nepal, India, Morocco and Turkey, using traditional techniques passed down for generations. If your home is largely DIY, we are positive you are going to enjoy the craftsmanship that goes in creating this one of a kind rugs. Moreover, we find it amazing that you know the person who created your family long lasting piece of good quality.
One of the large part of the Sukhi brand is that their artisans are taken care of. We love the fact that they are being paid really well, double what the average wage is in Rajasthan. In India we found out that the artisans are entirely male which is quite different than traditions in other countries and even in other regions in the country. However, their wages from creating these beautiful rugs help them to lead a dignified life. Their job gives them worth within their community, and they are able to send their children to get the education they were unable to receive themselves.
Each rug handcrafted in India is made with wool. As mentioned on their website, the wool is then felted and dyed for color and texture, and then intricately woven into the rug base. Our personal favorite rug, the Aditya rug, is made in India using the cut felt technique. Thousands of felt motifs are cut out and woven into the rug. The Aditya rug in the cut felt collection in particular is made in white, beige, and chocolate colors, making it a perfect match for the living room, as you can see below. We love its texture and the neutral colors!
We encourage you to head over to Sukhi to check out their selections of gorgeous rugs in many different colors and styles: like the trendy Beni Ourain or the warm and joyful felt ball rugs. This ethical décor brand empowers tens of artisans around the world to support their families and bring you beautiful pieces of art on the floor.
