What’s cute and cuddly but not your ideal houseguest?
While gazing at the wildlife we find in our backyard is wonderful, they sometimes get too close for comfort!
Check out these seven tips if you happen to find a squirrel in the house.
1. Use Cider Vinegar
Squirrels need to be motivated to leave. You can motivate them in the form of cider vinegar.
The small critters aren’t fans of certain smells, so soak cloths in cider vinegar and put them in the room with the squirrel.
2. Put Together a Humane Bait Trap
Another step to catching a squirrel is to put together a bait trap.
You want to be sure to use safe and humane options so that you don’t hurt the squirrel. A few humane baits you can use are:
- peanut butter
Set the trap out, with the bait, and then leave until you catch the squirrel. Then you will be able to safely release it.
3. Grab a Blanket
If you’re able to isolate the squirrel in a small room or corner, you may have an opportunity to pick up the squirrel and remove it from your home.
You don’t want to do this barehanded though. Put on heavy gloves, toss a blanket over the squirrel, and quickly (but carefully) pick it up.
Then you can take it outside and release it.
4. Make Loud Noises
Wondering how to catch a squirrel in the house? Make some noise!
Squirrels don’t like loud noises, so turn on music, bang on pots and pans, or hit the walls.
This will make them have second thoughts on taking up residence in your house.
5. Is There a Nest?
Sometimes mommy squirrels can build a nest within your home.
If you have an adult squirrel in your home that refuses to leave, there’s a good chance they have little ones inside.
In this case, you may want to consider waiting it out.
When the babies get bigger, they will most likely leave with their mother.
6. Give the Squirrel an Escape Route
When you find a squirrel in your house, you want to make sure that it has an escape route.
Close all doors and windows except one opening to the outside. This allows the squirrel to get out on its own.
7. Call a Professional
If you’re wondering how to catch a squirrel in your house and you feel like you’ve exhausted all attempts to remove the squirrely critter from your house, it may be time to call the professionals.
Certified and trained pros can come to your home and help.
Whether you need squirrel or even raccoon removal, they can get the intruders out in a safe and timely manner.
Be Prepared if You Find a Squirrel in the House
They may be cute, but no one wants a squirrel in the house.
These tips can help you safely get rid of your unwanted guests, so everything can go back to normal.
