While on a shopping trip in Pottery Barn, Gina from The Shabby Creek Cottage found a lamp and shade that she loved. The bad news is they were quite pricey. The good news is Gina is a pro at creating a "cheaper alternative,” like mimicking a $159+ lamp for less than $10 using secondhand finds. Gina’s revamped lamp is just as lovely as her inspiration but is even better since Gina translated words from one of hubby’s love notes for the script. Oohlala!

Jenny from Evolution of Style came across a couple of lamps that both boasted unique architectural bases, distressed finishes… and two hundred dollar price tags! She then came across a lamp base with a similar shape from Goodwill for only $4.99 and knew she could work some magic on it with chalk paint. Jenny layered two colors to create a beautiful weathered effect that also happens to remind me of Restoration Hardware’s delectable finishes.

Angie of Angie’s Roost wanted to add a pair of task lamps to her work area, but the West Elm ones she was eyeing were too tall and, not surprisingly, too expensive. She found a shorter, more budget-friendly version at Target; however, they didn’t offer the bold color choices that Angie found appealing. That’s nothing a can of spray paint couldn’t fix! Angie gave her lamps a paint job “a la West Elm” and says the hardest part of the project was deciding on a color.
