Brynne of The Gathered Home fell in love with the Block 2 light created by the talented Henry Pilcher and immediately knew she wanted to do a "spinoff" DIY. Instead of recreating the look with wood as in the original, Brynne decided to use copper plumbing pipe. She also used an Ikea Foto pendant, spray painted glossy black, and built the icosahedron around it with copper pipe pieces and copper wire. Inspiration: $2111. Brynne’s DIY version: $50.

Monica from Crafty Nest created her own set of orb pendant lights from an unlikely source – inexpensive bamboo roman shades. Monica says, “The bamboo is surprisingly sturdy and bendable—and you can easily cut it with scissors—making it an ideal lightweight frame for paper lanterns or this orb lampshade.” I love that outside-the-box thinking! Monica simply cut, glued, and clamped away and assures that the most time consuming part is waiting for the glue to dry!

Kelly from View Along the Way was on a mission to tackle the bare handing light bulbs in her home one bulb at a time. A pricey capiz shell chandelier from Horchow caught her eye, but it was a tea light holder from TJMaxx that actually made the dream a reality. Kelly and her husband turned the candle holder and an IKEA lamp into their own pretty pendant.
