How to Best Maintain Your Fabric Sofas

April 16, 2019 By Julia Carlisle

Fabric sofas are stylish and comfortable pieces of furniture which have been said to have an inviting look and to give your living room a homely look.

However, fabric sofas being beautiful and colorful are susceptible to stains. You might also accumulate dust, or acquire a snitch in its seams due to the introduction of a sharp object.

Little children playing around or someone eating on the sofa might accidentally create an ugly imprint or stain on your fabric sofas.

These stains, if not taken care of, can diminish or reduce the beauty of your fabric sofas.

In any case of such dirt occurring, you probably know that fabric sofas are easy enough to clean and they need a little bit of attention.

So, you don’t have to worry anymore because you can do cleaning easily at home. However, there is a list of guidelines for maintaining fabric sofas to enable them to retain their natural accommodating appearance:

1. Check the Manufacturers Cleaning Recommendation

Check the sofa tags or the manufacturer’s websites to see and confirm the equipment that is safe to be used for the sofas.

Some detergents or solvents may turn out to be harmful to the color or quality of the fabric or even the upholstery.

Also, as with any cleaning options below, always try cleaning only a spot of your fabric sofa, before wiping it all.

2. Attend to Stains Quickly

As soon as you notice a stain on your fabric sofas, get to clean the stain out at once. When you decide to wait for an extended time, the stain might set stubbornly into the fabric.

In case you have stains becoming more difficult to get off, then sometimes it becomes impossible to remove them. The best thing about fabric sofas is to make sure they stay clean and in case you see some stains, remove them as fast as possible.

3. Use Dry Brushes

Run a rigid, dry brush over the entire surface of your fabric sofas to remove dust from the fabric.

Since it is natural for furniture to accumulate dust, it is advisable for you to brush your fabric sofas often because the more dust gathered over time, the harder it becomes for you to get rid of it.

4. Air Dry

Next, if you want to make sure that your sofa is well-maintained, you have to air dry it after cleaning.

If you clean your sofa with a wet upholstery cleaner or carpet cleaner with a wand attachment, do so on warm day. This way, you can open windows and allow the fabric to air dry adequately.

5. Vacuum

You can also regularly use a handheld vacuum cleaner to go over the surface area of your fabric sofa. The role of the vacuum cleaner is to make sure it removes the dirt particles lying in your gorgeous sofa.

If you do this before cleaning, it will help you to identify troublesome stains when it becomes the time to clean.

Besides, it will also make your cleaning much more comfortable than before removing dirt with a vacuum cleaner.

6. Make Use of Baking Soda

Sometimes, your sofa might start having an odor because it is dirty. In case you meet yourself in such a situation, you need to use baking soda.

When you sprinkle baking soda over a fabric sofa will help remove any odor that the couch has. Baking soda is, therefore, a useful stain removing agent.

Once the baking soda has fully absorbed the stain vacuum it or scrub your fabric sofa down with a hard brush, at the end of the day, you will have a fantastic and clean fabric sofa in your house.

7. Dry Your Fabric Sofa with a Soft Towel

The other way you can make sure that your sofa is well maintained is to use a soft towel.

Use a dry towel to pat on any wet areas and use the brush in getting off any remaining cleaning solvents.

Conclusion

Taking care of your fabric sofa can be a bit, but it’s straightforward. Fabric sofas come in various types of color, sizes, and patterns.

It will, therefore, depend on what you want to buy. Plant-based cotton, linen, silk, and wool are used in the making of the fabric on a fabric sofa because they are quite the most durable of all natural fabric fibers.

More so, it is recommended that when getting a fabric sofa, great care should be taken to the prolong the durability of the material so that your biggest piece of furniture will stay looking great for a long time.
