6 Ways to Liven Up Your Outdoor Space This Summer

April 23, 2019 By Julia Carlisle

Summer is the perfect time of the year to hit the outdoors and have a great time. Your outdoor living space must, therefore, be ready for the good times.

Livening your outdoor space doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. You can install simple features and still enjoy your space.

Your backyard should stay clean with the grass beautifully trimmed. That way, even if you don’t have fixtures and features such as a swimming pool, you will still find your space entertaining.

So, what can you do liven up your outdoors?

Take Care Of The Grass And The Pathways

A neat looking landscape is relaxing. When the grass looks lush and green and the pathways look organized, your yard will look great.

At the start of summer, cut the grass up to 2.5 inches, remove weeds and dried grass, and ensure that there is good drainage.

Pathways add to the beauty and value of your home. Concrete pathways leading to each feature in your outdoor living space will look great.

Install An Above Ground Pool

Above ground pools have become very popular in recent years. Most homeowners who may have never considered owning a pool are now having second thoughts.

These pools are easy to install. You can buy the kit today and get it installed in a day.

Above ground, pools can cost as low as $1,500 and as high as $8,000. Choose the design and size based on your budget.

Round and oval designs are the most common but other designs are also available.

Furnish Your Space

If you do not have seats and rugs, it might be time to get new ones. If your outdoor living space has old seats, it might also be time to replace them. The right seating will add color to your space.

Big spaces can handle bulky seats and a large farmhouse table, while small spaces need wicker chairs and small benches with throw pillows.

You can also invest in a good rug to keep the space warm. If your budget allows, add a wooden floor in an attractive design. Because seats should not be left on the open sun, you can extend your patio or create an outdoor living room.

Install Interesting Outdoor Lights

Lighting adds life to your outdoor living space at night. Light up your pathways, your patio or your outdoor living rooms. To cut costs, choose interesting and colored solar outdoor lights for your garden.

String lights are a good option for small patios. They are also great for your entire landscape. Lanterns lined up along pathways also look great.

Design An Outdoor Kitchen

When summer kicks in, you might be spending most of your evenings outdoors. Granted, an outdoor kitchen will be a welcome feature. Besides making your stay outdoors interesting, the kitchen improves the value of your home.

An outdoor kitchen should allow you to barbecue and have great countertops. With an outdoor kitchen, you will need a dining area.

You might not afford too of the line equipment but there are plenty of ways to create a cost-friendly dining area.

In most instances, homeowners create a simple kitchen that allows them to barbecue, make cakes and pizzas, or mix drinks. The outdoor kitchen does not have to be comprehensive.

Install Outdoor Shades

If you will be enjoying drinks outside as the sun shines above, you may need a shade over your head when it’s too hot or when it rains. The best strategy can be to plant trees today and enjoy natural shades next summer.

Unfortunately, trees cannot grow fast, so installing outdoor shades with benches or seats around them can be your best bet.

Take Care of your Yard

Even with the best features such as pools and fireplaces, your yard needs to be well-maintained to keep it looking good and comfortable.

Rugs, throws, and seat covers need to be cleaned, grass needs to be mowed and watered while pathways kept clean. Any broken parts need to be repaired.

Other things you can do to improve your outdoors is to add a perimeter fence that protects your outdoor space from intruders and small mammals that may eat up grass in your yard.

The best way to enjoy summer is to revamp your outdoor space. You don’t want your home to be boring when everywhere else is exciting.

The improvements you make on your outdoor living space will greatly depend on your budget, the size of your space, and time. Before any improvements, make sure you plan your yard.
