Lightning Damage in Trees: What Can You Do About It?

9:41 PM By Olivia

Summer and fall are two wonderful seasons, no question about it. They bring us the most beautiful colors and inspire artists to do amazing things.

However, the two seasons also bring us stormy weather. This is not always a bad thing because storms can also be pretty inspiring.

Just ask any poet and they will confirm it. However, stormy weather brings thunder and this can be dangerous to trees, people, and animals.

Every once in a while, lightning will strike a tree and cause it a lot of damage. If lightning is strong and the tree is old enough, this can kill the tree.

However, in most cases, the tree survives, but it suffers horrible damage. What can you do if this happens to your tree? Is there a way you can save it? Let’s find out the answer.

Don’t Go To The Tree Straight Away

Lightning striking the tree in your backyard can be a rather scary experience. It might feel like the lightning has struck your house.

However, you should try to remain calm and try to assess the damage. If you ever saw a lightning struck tree, you probably know there can be a lot of fire.

Also, if the tree is old and weak, it can fall. Therefore, you must not go to it straight away.

In order to protect yourself and your family members, make sure to wait a few minutes before going to the damaged tree.

This is the best way to avoid the potential second lightning strike. Also, if you notice that the tree is on fire, don’t try to put out the fire yourself. Call the authorities right away.

Inspect The Tree Closely

If there is no fire and if it’s safe to go near the tree, feel free to go to it and inspect it closely. This is the only way you will be able to see whether or not there’s damage.

If the tree has cracks or it’s blackened, you will probably have to remove it. However, if there is no visible damage, there’s a chance you will be able to return it to its former glory.

In case you don’t know how to nurture a tree after it has been struck by lightning, make sure to consult experts.

You have a good chance of bringing it back to life, but only if you don’t make any mistakes. Therefore, be careful and treat it gently.

Call The Professionals To Assess The Situation

In case you can’t tell whether or not the tree can survive, you should call the professionals.

The experts will tell you honestly if your tree has a chance of recovery or if it should be removed. In most cases, the people you call to assess the damage are also the people who know how to remove the tree safely.

If you are a tree lover, this is probably a sad day for you. This is perfectly understandable and you should do everything in your power to save the tree.

However, if the tree can’t be saved, you should pay the experts to remove it in order to keep your family and your property safe.

Dealing with a lightning-damaged tree doesn’t need to be stressful. With these tips, you can resolve this concern in the fastest time possible.

At the same time, you’ll have more peace of mind when handling this problem.
