6 Tips to Ensure a Smooth Move

July 10, 2019 By Julia Carlisle

The key to a smooth, stress-free move is preparation. A little preparation goes a long way, especially during a task as strenuous as a move.

There are so many steps involved in moving.

Sorting through your belongings, buying moving supplies, finding a good moving company like Allied Moving Company, tossing out items that you no longer need, packing—the list goes on and one, but it’s clear to see why moving is such a big deal.

The bigger your home, the more strenuous the move becomes in many cases.

But there is a simple solution and that is to prepare and organize the move well ahead of time. A little organization goes a long way on moving day, regardless of the size of the move.

Don’t forsake your peace of mind and be sure that you organize and prepare for the move.

Make a Moving Checklist

A moving checklist is an important accessory for any family that is relocating. This checklist can help ensure you complete all the tasks needed to move, such as transferring electricity or buying moving supplies.

The checklist helps you better organize the move and keep track of the things that you are moving into your new home.

It’s easy to create your own moving checklist, but ample printable checklists are available at no cost online that you may prefer more.

Label All Boxes

A black marker is a mover’s best friend. Use it to mark each box with the room location that it goes and the contents inside the box.

Have a layout of the new home readily available to minimize the load when bringing in your boxes.

Place contents for one room into one box. Never combine items from multiple rooms together because this adds hassle to the unpacking process.

Do You Have Supplies?

Don’t be afraid to order more supplies than you think that you’ll need for the move. Boxes, packing foam, tape, and other supplies seem to diminish quickly. It’s better to have more than you need than less than what you need.

Besides, many moving companies will buy back any unused supplies.

Don’t use boxes from the grocery store since they tend to be weaker than moving company boxes. And be sure to have an assortment of box sizes to choose from.

Put Things Where They Belong

It’s easy to set boxes down wherever you can find space to set them when you arrive at the new house. You’re tired and just want to sit down and relax in the new place, after all.

But saving a few minutes now causes a big mess later so make sure to put each box in the corresponding room to reduce the workload and the headache later.

It takes only a little more effort to ensure the boxes are properly placed and prevents so much trouble!

Finish Packing Before Moving Day

Don’t use the moving day as the day to finalize your packing. Keep the stress out of the day by having things ready to go once you wake up. Enough is going on during the moving day; don’t add more things to do to your list.

Avoid stress by properly planning your move and packing boxes before moving day rolls around.

Pack an Essentials Bag and Box

An essentials bag should contain bottled water, snacks, and small toys for the kids that’s easily accessible during the hectic move.

Your essentials box should contain cleaning supplies and items that you’ll need immediately upon arrival at the new home.

When you separate these items and keep them with you, it’s easier than sorting through mounds of boxes to find what you need.

Moving is exciting as you begin a journey into a new chapter of your life. Most people anticipate the new journey and their life in the new home.

But moving can also be tedious and stressful if you’re not prepared for this big day and all the work that it brings your way.

Don’t succumb to the same headaches that burden so many other people on moving day. Use the information above to keep things smooth and simple.
